The Benefits of Blocking Blue Light

Almost everyone wears glasses at some point in their lives. In developed countries the rule of thumb is that around 70% of adults need corrective lenses to see well. In Britain that translates to some 35 million people, and this is on the rise, potentially due to our early 21st Century urban living; the time we spend indoors, the screens we use, the colour spectrum in LED lighting, and the needs of an ageing population.

We would like to look in a little more detail about the contribution our extended use of screens and in particular the effect blue light has on our eyesight and health as well as the benefits our blue light glasses could have in combatting or alleviating these effects in some way.

Exposure to artificial light (blue light especially) at the wrong times of the day is very much overlooked as a 21st Century health risk. Blocking blue light serves an important biological purpose, helping to regulate your internal clock to control sleep patterns and other bodily functions.

For some avoiding blue light, especially at night is unavoidable, but one of the simplest ways to protect your body’s internal rhythm and support healthy sleep is to wear blue light glasses when using screens, especially at night time. These filter out blue light which can be harmful and when combined with the correct strength of reading glasses can help prevent eye strain, headaches and sleep pattern disruption all while still allowing you to enjoy the time on your tablet, computer or phone. Tiger Specs stocks blue light glasses in reading strengths from +1.00 to +5.00 as well as without correction, also known as clear lenses (+0.00).

Blue light glasses would prove to be the perfect 2nd pair of glasses in your kit bag, and with Tiger Specs offering £5 off when purchasing any 2 pairs of glasses it would be the perfect opportunity in taking a small step to protect your eye and body health.
