Reading Sunglasses FAQs

What are reading sunglasses?

Reading sunglasses are eyewear that combines reading glasses with UV protection, allowing you to see up close while protecting your eyes from the sun. They are ideal for outdoor activities like reading or working in bright light.

Can reading sunglasses be used for regular sunglasses?

Yes, reading sunglasses can be used as regular sunglasses when you're outdoors and need both magnification for reading and protection from UV rays. They provide both benefits in one pair of glasses.

Are reading sunglasses the same as bifocal or progressive sunglasses?

Reading sunglasses are the same as reading glasses but with tinted lenses and UV400 sun protection, so for reading in the sun. We also have a range of bifocal reading sunglasses which have the strength in the lower part of the lens and the upper part is without correction, the whole of the lens provides sun protection and is tinted. These are distinct from bifocal or progressive/varifocal prescription sunglasses which we do not sell and are for all types of vision correction, not just reading.

Can I wear reading sunglasses in the evening?

Reading sunglasses are designed for daytime use when sunlight or glare is present. In the evening, it’s usually best to switch to regular reading glasses without tinted lenses, as darker lenses can make it harder to see clearly in low light. If you move between indoor and outdoor environments throughout the day, photochromic reading sunglasses can be a helpful option. These lenses automatically adjust from clear to tinted depending on light levels, giving you comfortable vision in changing conditions.
